Summary
Our client, a Fortune 500 medical device company, is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to join their laboratory team. This role is responsible for performing complex clinical laboratory testing, validating and reviewing results, maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with California and CLIA regulations, and supporting quality assurance initiatives. The ideal candidate has a strong scientific background, excellent attention to detail, and experience working in a regulated clinical laboratory environment.
Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical laboratory testing in accordance with approved procedures, California state regulations, and CLIA requirements.
  • Analyze, review, validate, and certify laboratory test results prior to release.
  • Review quality control (QC) and calibration data to ensure results meet established specifications.
  • Investigate inconsistent or questionable laboratory results and recommend corrective actions, including stopping production when necessary.
  • Monitor QC trends and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate laboratory instruments according to manufacturer and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for testing, calibration, equipment maintenance, specimen handling, and quality records.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and properly handle hazardous materials while reporting incidents or safety concerns.
  • Assist with investigations related to laboratory testing, specimen handling, production issues, and quality events.
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Train, supervise, and assess competency of laboratory personnel as required.
  • Provide technical guidance and supervisory support in the absence of laboratory leadership.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities.
  • Maintain continuing education requirements to support California Clinical Laboratory Scientist licensure.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or another related scientific discipline.
  • Active California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Generalist, Toxicologist, or Chemist license.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a toxicology laboratory utilizing LC/MS/MS, GC/MS, or other mass spectrometry platforms, or 5+ years of general clinical laboratory experience with knowledge of toxicology.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting mass spectrometry data is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CLIA regulations and clinical laboratory best practices.
  • Experience with laboratory quality control, calibration, equipment maintenance, and documentation.
  • Proficiency with pipetting techniques and laboratory computer systems (LIMS experience preferred).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to train and mentor laboratory personnel.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment with changing priorities and frequent interruptions.
